Verona 6, Kaukauna 5

After hanging around the ball park all day, the Verona Fighting JV’s are ready to play Kaukauna. Kaukauna was the home team. Verona didn’t score in the first, and Kaukauna scored twice. There was no scoring in the second inning. In the third inning Seliger lead off with a base hit, Smith followed Seli with a single. Granick hit the ball hard and reached on an error, this scored Seliger from second making the score 2-1 with Kaukauna in the lead. In the fourth inning, with Verona down by a run, Young reached on an error. Roehrig sacrificed him to second. Seliger walked, and Smith singled scoring Young to tie the game. Baltes singled to score to score seliger, and got to second. With Baltes on second base, and Smith on third, “Zeke” worked to perfection to score Smith from third on a Grammy winning performance by Baltes. Kaukauna scored three in the fourth to take the lead, 5-4. In the fifth inning, Whitehead lead off with a walk, Toner also walked. With one out, Young and Roehrig both singled, and Seliger drew a walk. At the end of the inning, both Whitehead and Toner scored to make it 6-5, Verona winning. Freshman Fernandez came in for Whitehead and put the game away allowing just one base runner over the final three innings. The win makes the JV team 11-7.
