(5) Verona Fighting JV’s at Sun Prairie (11)
Home Team: Sun Prairie – 11
Away Team: Verona Fighting JV’s – 5
The Verona Fighting JV’s (0-1) played in Sun Prairie and played them well. We got on the board in the first inning when Parizo, Fernandez, and Hano reached on walks. After two strike outs, Mandarino lifted a two strike pitch into left center for a double to score two runs and help himself out on the mound. Sun Prairie battled back and scored a run after a triple with a runner on first.
In the second inning, McClure doubled with two outs and was unable to score. Sun Prairie scored in the bottom of the 2nd to tie the game up at two.
Verona couldn’t capitalize after having two runners on base in the third, and Sun Prairie did. Before Mandarino could record an out in the 3rd, he was replaced by Mrkvika with the bases loaded. The Cardinals strung a few hits together and in the blink of an eye, the score was 7-2.
Verona went 1-2-3 in their half of the 4th, and Sun Prairie added another run making it 8-2. In the 5th, Verona showed some life. Parizo reached base after being hit by a pitch, and Fernandez moved him to second on a ground out. Favour stepped up and hit a double to score Parizo. With Favour on second base, Hano got a base hit to score Favour making the score 8-4. But Sun Prairie was too much for the Fighting JV’s after they added 3 more runs in the 6th inning.
Verona still battled and added another run in the 7th when Acosta led off the inning with a double to right field. Klockziem grounded out to move Acosta to third, and Grinde hit a towering fly ball to center field which was deep enough to score Acosta from third base. The game ended with the score 11-5 in favor of Sun Prairie.
The Verona Fighting JV’s drop to 0-2 on the season and gear for their home opener on Tuesday.

(1) Verona Wildcat JV at Beloit Memorial (5)
Home Team: Beloit Memorial – 5
Away Team: Verona Wildcat JV – 1
The Verona Fighting JV’s started off their season at Beloit Memorial. Freshman catcher, Tyler McClure, started off the season with a double, and got to third on a bunt single by Nathan Cleghorn. However, they were unable to score in the first inning after a strikeout and a fly ball to center wasn’t deep enough to score the runner from third.
Evan Fernandez started for the Fighting JV’s of Verona on the mound and held Beloit to just 3 hits through 4 innings. Zach Parizo came in for relief and threw the last 3 innings, giving up 0 hits.
Verona left 7 runners in scoring position and were only able to score 1 run. Of the 5 runs that scored for Beloit, 4 of them reached via walk. The play of the game was a bases-clearing triple for Beloit in the third inning that gave them separation from Verona, and held on for the 5-1 victory.
Verona falls to 0-1 on the season and will travel to Sun Prairie to play on Thursday, April 10th.
