Verona 12 Kaukauna 9 (Game 2)

Scoreboard operators were busy at Bayorgeon Field on Saturday as the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity and Kaukauna combined for 21 runs. Verona Area Wildcats Varsity eventually won the offensive battle 12-9 in seven innings.

Hitters on both sides were strong at the plate as the teams combined for 23 hits, including three extra base hits.

The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to eight lead changes in the game.

The Verona Area Wildcats Varsity pulled out the win thanks to a strong sixth inning. A sacrifice fly by Jason Frahm scored John Moynihan and gave the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity the lead for good.

Connor Volker got the win for the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity despite allowing five runs over two innings. Connor struck out one, walked two and gave up five hits.

Ryan Shavlik ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He lasted just zero innings, walked two, struck out none, and allowed three runs.

In the top of the second, the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity grabbed the early lead, 1-0. Blake Laufenberg kicked things off for the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity with a single. A stolen base then moved Blake from first to second.

It didn’t take long for Kaukauna to answer as it scored three runs of its own in the second. Kaukauna scored on an RBI single by Alex Meyerhofer, an RBI single by Ryan, and an RBI single by Logan Burton.

The sixth spelled defeat for Kaukauna, as the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity grabbed the lead for good. More runners rounded the bases on two singles.
