The Verona Area Wildcats Varsity beat Madison Memorial 4-0 in seven innings on Thursday at Mansfield Stadium behind Ben Rortvedt, who went 3-3 at the plate.

He doubled in the fifth inning and singled in the third and seventh innings.

Keaton Knueppel worked out of five tough situations for the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity. He pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed no earned runs on three hits. Keaton faced his most difficult moment in the fifth inning.

Ben Horman was charged with the loss. He lasted just 5 2/3 innings, walked seven, struck out six, and allowed one run.

Verona Area Wildcats Varsity closer John Moynihan put away the final four outs to record the save.

The Verona Area Wildcats Varsity never surrendered the lead after the third inning, scoring one run on an RBI single by Ben.

The Verona Area Wildcats Varsity piled on three more runs in the top of the seventh. Ben’s single got things going, bringing home Mitch Flora. That was followed up by John’s single, plating Eric Schmid.
