The Verona Area Wildcats Varsity and Janesville Craig both had scoring chances on Saturday, but it was the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity that were able to capitalize on them as they pulled out a 7-4 win at Stampfl Field.

Janesville Craig out-hit Verona Area Wildcats Varsity six to five, but Janesville Craig stranded seven runners on base.

Jeffrey Reinholtz racked up four RBIs on one hit for the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity. He homered in the third inning.

Keaton Knueppel struck out six hitters en route to the the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity win. Keaton allowed two earned runs on six hits and one walk over 6 2/3 innings.

Chase Nyborg took the loss for Janesville Craig. He lasted just four innings, walked one, struck out seven, and allowed three runs.

Verona Area Wildcats Varsity closer John Moynihan put away the final out to record the save.

The top of the first saw Janesville Craig take an early lead, 3-0. Janesville Craig’s threat began with a single by McCauley Cox. A single by Nick Blomgren then moved McCauley from first to third. Janesville Craig pushed more runs across when Blomgren scored on an RBI double by Justin Graham and Graham scored on an error.

After a quick strike from Janesville Craig, the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity responded with one run in the second. The Verona Area Wildcats Varsity scored on an RBI single by Troy Granick.

The game was never in doubt after the third, as the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity scored four runs on a home run by Jeffrey.

The Verona Area Wildcats Varsity tacked on another two runs in the fifth. John started the inning with a double, bringing home Ben Rortvedt.
