The Verona Area Wildcats Varsity racked up six hits, but it wasn’t enough, as the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity were 10-3 losers on Friday at the hands of Beaver Dam at Stampfl Field.

Tekoa Whitehead put together a nice outing. Whitehead gave up just three hits, allowed two earned runs, walked two and struck out four during his 3 1/3 innings of work.

Matt Berg got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. He allowed three runs over seven innings. Berg struck out nine, walked four and gave up six hits.

Whitehead couldn’t get it done on the hill for the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity, taking a loss.

The game was never in doubt after the first, as Beaver Dam scored two runs on a two-run single by Anthony Schumann.

Beaver Dam built upon its lead with four runs in the second. The inning looked promising, as Michell Streblow singled, bringing home Skylar Eberle to kick things off. That was followed up by Adam Lindeman’s triple, plating Streblow.

After pushing across two runs in the bottom of the fourth, the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity faced just a 6-2 deficit. An RBI triple by Stephen Lund and a passed ball triggered the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity’s comeback. The Verona Area Wildcats Varsity threat came to an end when Berg finally got Jason Frahm to ground out.

One run in the bottom of the fifth helped the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity close their deficit to 8-3. An RBI double by Keaton Knueppel sparked the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity’s rally. Finally, Berg induced an inning-ending ground out from Lund.
