The Verona Area Wildcats Varsity beat Oregon 11-2 in seven innings on Monday at Oregon High School after a six-run explosion in the first inning.

The Verona Area Wildcats Varsity scored in the first on a two-run single by Tyler McClure, an RBI single by Brodie Roehrig, and a three-run double by David Rogowski.

Tekoa Whitehead got it done on the mound on the way to a win. He allowed two runs over six innings. Whitehead struck out six, walked four and gave up six hits.

The Verona Area Wildcats Varsity were sparked by Jacob Slonim and McClure, who teamed up for three hits and four RBIs.

Matt Yates couldn’t get it done on the bump for Oregon, taking a loss. He allowed seven runs in three innings, walked five and struck out one.

Verona Area Wildcats Varsity closer Evan Fernandez put away the final three outs to record the save.

After posting two runs in the sixth, the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity again scored two in the seventh. In the sixth, the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity scored on an RBI double by Keaton Knueppel, scoring Jake Toman.

The inning looked promising, as Josh Hano doubled, plating Connor Volker to kick things off.
