Stephen Lund held up his end of the bargain, but Lund couldn’t pilot the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity past Janesville Parker as the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity lost 7-2 in seven innings at Riverside Park on Thursday.

Lund looked sharp on the bump. Lund held Janesville Parker hitless over one inning, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one.

Hunter Vanzandt got the win for Janesville Parker. He allowed two runs over seven innings. Hunter Vanzandt struck out eight, walked two and gave up four hits.

Jake Toman was the game’s losing pitcher. He allowed seven runs in five innings, walked two and struck out four.

Janesville Parker stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the first, scoring one run on an RBI single by Logan Coulter.

Janesville Parker piled on six more runs in the bottom of the third. A scored Jordan Bailey for the inning’s first run.

After pushing across one run in the top of the fourth, the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity faced just a 7-1 deficit. A wild pitch fueled the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity’s comeback. Hunter Vanzandt ended the inning by getting Brodie Roehrig to strike out.

The Verona Area Wildcats Varsity scored one run in the top of the seventh to cut their deficit to five. An error triggered the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity’s comeback. Hunter Vanzandt got the last out, as the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity’s David Rogowski struck out.
