Verona Area High School Wildcats BaseballThe Verona Wildcats Freshman collected seven hits, but the Verona Wildcats Freshman fell 9-3 to Sun Prairie Red at Sun Prairie High School on Tuesday.

Sun Prairie Red couldn’t get anything going as long as Jonah Haffner was pitching. Sun Prairie Red managed just three hits off of Haffner, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out two during his 3 1/3 innings of work.

Drew List, Logan Lange and Cooper Nelson helped lead Sun Prairie Red. They combined for four hits and four RBIs.

The game’s last lead went to Sun Prairie Red thanks to a first inning rally that saw two runs cross the plate on an error.

Sun Prairie Red piled on two more runs in the bottom of the second. Tyler Kubly singled, plating List to start the inning.

After pushing across one run in the top of the third, the Verona Wildcats Freshman faced just a 4-1 deficit. A groundout by Ryan Van Handel set off the Verona Wildcats Freshman rally. Finally, Logan Huron induced an inning-ending fly out from Chris Moynihan.

Sun Prairie Red quickly matched the Verona Wildcats Freshman’s strong inning with a five-run inning of its own in the third. Sun Prairie Red scored on a two-run error, an RBI single by Nelson, an RBI single by Logan Huron, and an RBI single by Logan Lange.

A two-run fourth inning helped bring the Verona Wildcats Freshman within six. An RBI double by Jake Osiecki and a passed ball fueled the Verona Wildcats Freshman’s comeback. The Verona Wildcats Freshman threat came to an end when Logan Huron finally got Nate Waller to strike out.
