Verona Area High School Wildcats BaseballThe Verona Area Wildcats Varsity top Madison West in back-and-forth affair, 4-3.

The Verona Area Wildcats Varsity and Madison West volleyed the lead five times on Friday, but the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity came out on top for a 4-3 win on Friday at Stampfl Field.

The Verona Area Wildcats Varsity finally managed to grab the lead after a strong seventh inning. A hit by pitch scored Ben Rortvedt and gave the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity the lead for good.

Rortvedt put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity. He singled in the first inning, doubled in the fifth inning, and tripled in the seventh inning.

Jeff Bishop handled Madison West’s lineup with ease, racking up nine strikeouts. Bishop allowed two earned runs, five hits and one walk over five innings.

Jason Frahm got the win in relief for the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity. Frahm pitched two innings and allowed one run.

Mark Alesia took the loss for Madison West. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked three, struck out none, and allowed one run.

The bottom of the first saw the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity take an early lead, 2-0. Jacob Slonim kicked things off for the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity with a single. A double by Keaton Knueppel then moved Slonim from first to third. The Verona Area Wildcats Varsity added more runs when Knueppel scored on an RBI single by Rortvedt.

After posting one run in the sixth, the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity again scored one in the seventh. In the sixth, the Verona Area Wildcats Varsity scored on an RBI single by RJ Woppert, bringing home Sam Favour.
